Menstrual Cycle-Friendly Therapy

MCFT is the adaptation of Counselling and Psychotherapy to be aware of, track, explore, and embrace the natural rhythms of the menstrual cycle for both therapists and clients alike. Working with, rather than against, our hormonal transitions and phases.

In our fast-paced and productivity-driven culture, there is a tendency to dismiss some aspects of the menstrual cycle as a distraction or an inconvenience, failing to recognise the deep wisdom and power that comes with understanding our cyclical nature.

As a therapist, I believe the menstrual cycle can be one of the most powerful therapeutic tools innate to our emotional landscape (and yet it continues to be forgotten about within the majority of Counselling and Psychotherapy theory, research, and training).

I understand that every person is the expert of their own experiences, and this understanding extends to the uniqueness of an individual’s menstrual cycle, as the menstrual cycle can significantly impact our energy levels, mood, sense of self, relationships, and overall mental health and well-being.

In Menstrual Cycle-Friendly Therapy, I adapt the therapeutic approach to support our natural fluctuations, embracing the innate wisdom of the menstrual cycle within your therapeutic journey, and with awareness and practice, we find a more confident and resilient sense of self throughout all phases of your cycle.

Integrating the menstrual cycle within the therapeutic process can be empowering and beneficial for both the client and the therapist. Through understanding and acknowledging these natural fluctuations we can create a therapeutic environment and private practice that truly honours the lived experiences of client and therapist in whichever phase of the cycle they are in.

By embracing a more holistic and compassionate approach to the menstrual cycle, one that values all aspects of our experience, we can begin to transform the way we view and relate to our bodies, minds, and sense of self, tapping into the power and potential that lies within.
