Using
The Menstrual Cycle
in Therapy

I understand that today, finding a fulfilling work/life balance can feel almost impossible in our fast-paced world, where we often live outside our natural cycles and rhythms, especially for those of us with a menstrual cycle, or who are suffering with PMS/ PMDD.

Our busy lives, constant demands, and perceived social pressures can leave us disconnected from our body's inherent wisdom, including the natural flow of the menstrual cycle and each of it's 4 phases.

As a therapist, I believe learning about and attuning to your menstrual cycle can be one of the most powerful therapeutic tools innate to our emotional landscape.

Integrating the menstrual cycle within the therapeutic process can be both empowering and healing. Through understanding and acknowledging these natural fluctuations, we can create a therapeutic journey that truly honours the lived experiences of how each phase of your cycle affects your day-to-day life.

The flexibility of online therapy sessions offers a more convenient, affordable, and sustainable way to access the support you need, especially for those who suffer with PMS/ PMDD. By working with, rather than against, the natural rhythms of your cycle, we can create a more compassionate and balanced way of being in the world.

Menstrual Cycle-Friendly Therapy

MCFT is the adaptation of Counselling and Psychotherapy to be aware of, track, explore, and embrace the natural rhythms of the menstrual cycle. Working with, rather than against, our hormonal transitions and phases.

In our fast-paced and productivity-driven culture, there is a tendency to dismiss some aspects of the menstrual cycle as a distraction or an inconvenience, failing to recognise the deep wisdom and power that comes with understanding our cyclical nature.

In Menstrual Cycle-Friendly Therapy, I adapt the therapeutic approach to support our natural fluctuations, embracing the innate wisdom of the menstrual cycle within your therapeutic journey, and with awareness and practice, we find a more confident and resilient sense of self throughout all phases of your cycle.

PMS and PMDD

For those who suffer with PMS, or have a PMDD diagnosis, we can work together using the Menstrual Cycle Awareness approach in therapy to restore more balance, acceptance, and compassion towards the more difficult parts of your cycle.

I understand that every person is the expert of their own experiences, and this understanding extends to the uniqueness of an individual’s menstrual cycle, as the menstrual cycle can significantly impact our energy levels, mood, sense of self, relationships, and overall mental health and well-being.

By embracing a more holistic approach to PMS/ PMDD, one that values all aspects of our experience, we can begin to transform the way we view and relate to our bodies, minds, and sense of self, tapping into the power and potential that lies within, and slowly regaining control back from our cycles.

Eventually, through Menstrual Cycle Therapy, you can begin to feel more aligned and in harmony with your cycle as a whole, appreciating each phase for what it can offer (even the luteal, I promise!)
